It comes as national campaign spruiking booster shots kicks off today.
A third coronavirus shot is recommended six months after receiving the second, to combat waning immunity.
“Booster shots are vitally important,” Minister for Health Greg Hunt said today.
“They boost and add protection, especially for the immunocompromised but all Australians.
“I’m due myself in just over a week.”
To date 390,000 Australians have come forward for a third COVID-19 vaccine out of 520,000 eligible.
Health Minister Greg Hunt said that’s “well ahead of our best expectations”.
“Australians are now world champions in rolling up their sleeves,” he said.
However infectious disease experts have said healthy people don’t need “to rush”.
“Winter is our next big risk and we will be in a good position to give a boost, or a third shot, to those who need it before our next big risk.”
To date, 86.0 per cent of Australians aged 16 and over are double vaccinated.
